We are delighted that we list Wood Farm Cottages on our site - they're a fantastic base for child-friendly holidays in North Norfolk.

Having recently visited, here’s my lowdown on why they make a perfect destination for families.

1. The location is PERFECT

Wood Farm is surrounded by green countryside in a stunning part of Norfolk. We really loved the location. It’s just a short drive to the North Norfolk coast and all its beautiful beaches and also a short drive to the pretty town of Holt with its lovely shops and places to eat – win win!

2. It’s easy to relax because the cottages are comfy

The cottages are very nicely done out and are comfy – they all have leather sofas which mean you don’t have to worry about kids and their sticky hands (also particularly ideal for our family as we seem to have at least one spilt drink a day…!) The cottages have been well-designed to make them ideal for socialising – with open-plan kitchen, dining and living areas - perfect for family groups. We felt super relaxed as soon as we arrived and we wound down immediately. Plus, cooking in our cottage (we stayed in Ash, which sleeps 5) was easy and a real pleasure - it had all the kitchen equipment we needed. There’s even a herb garden now for all holidaymakers to pick delicious additions to their meals.

3. The expansive grounds and play area are amazing for kids

When we arrived at Wood Farm I was amazed by the size of the grounds with its wonderful play parks. As our kids are young (aged 5 and 2) I often like staying at places with a pool, as swimming keeps them so entertained, but I can honestly tell you it made not a jot of difference that there wasn’t one here. Our children were so busy with everything on-site and whiled away hours on the huge trampoline, swings, slide, pedal tractors, zip wire, sand pit and other fab play equipment.

Running around and exploring in an enormous (but enclosed) green space is something hugely valuable for all children - it was a genuine highlight of our trip. Wood Farm also offers a special treasure hunt where clues found lead to hidden golden hares around the fields - little ones love it!

4. Plenty of equipment is on hand so you can pack light

Leave the travel cot at home and free up car space as you can request these plus high chairs, bed guards and other kit. Plus babysitting is available by prior arrangement.

5. It’s toddler-friendly too

I can confirm Wood Farm Cottages is an easy place to holiday with toddlers - which is brilliant. Our brave and boisterous two year old wants to do anything and everything but isn't yet fully aware of what’s dangerous - so it gave us peace of mind that there was a fixed stair gate at the top of the stairs. This is provided in each of the two-storey cottages. Also, two of the cottages - Oak Cottage and Holly Cottage, both of which sleep 4 – have fenced gardens, ideal for families with small children so they can play in a small enclosed space while you watch with a cup of tea! And all cottages have child-friendly crockery – a fantastic bonus.

6. The owners are so welcoming and the atmosphere is lovely

Diana and Chris are warm, friendly and kind - and as a result the atmosphere at Wood Farm is super welcoming. You can see all the effort they’ve put in to make it just right - and you instantly feel at ease.

7. The ingenious map room helps you plan your family day trips

No need to research or pre-plan your North Norfolk day trips before your holiday at Wood Farm. They’ve got a mini visitors’ centre they’ve put together with a huge map on the wall with their top recommendations marked and explained. A clever idea well-executed to reduce decision-making stress and help you work out what you’d like to do and where to take the kids!

8. It’s not crazy expensive

Given that it’s a stunning place, beautifully presented and well thought out, and an all-round amazing holiday spot, the prices are not out of this world expensive. In fact, they’re reasonable – even in school holidays.

9. Families return again and again

Like many of the places we feature on Away with the Kids, Wood Farm Cottages has loads of return customers who come back year after year. It's such a wonderful, happy place to go on holiday and we definitely plan to include ourselves in the flocks of returning visitors!
