Wood Farm Cottages, an Away with the Kids staple, has been listed on the site for over ten years, proving itself as a fantastic child-friendly break, a place to get back to nature and explore the Norfolk area. Away with the Kids reviewer Ashleigh and his young family visited, to experience Wood Farm firsthand.
We stayed at Wood Farm Cottages in December, which despite the cold weather, managed to provide as warm of a welcome as the toasty temperature inside the beautiful cottage. The accommodation did not disappoint. Travelling with an under-two-year-old usually requires packing up your entire house to ensure their needs are met. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find the cottage had everything we needed, from baby cutlery, plates and bowls, to high chairs and cots as standard. The rooms were spacious and well decorated, with nice touches like books and games for evening entertainment, as well as having the oven grill prepared with foil ready for bacon in the morning making you feel very well looked after.
We decided to head to Thursford Light Trail on our first night – an amazing Christmas light trail and fun fair which all of us loved. It was a great way to get into the festive spirit. After a long day travelling and exploring, we returned to the cottage for a peaceful night's sleep. On our second day, we headed out to Great Yarmouth, for a fresh walk along the beach and a visit to Sealife (a must if you have a water baby like us). Back at the farm, we took a walk around the grounds and spotted two recently born lambs. It was a dream to spend time watching them discover the world in the first 24 hours of life.
The views at Wood Farm Cottages were amazing and we felt very close to nature – a literal breath of fresh air. After exploring the grounds and admiring the views, we headed to the games room. Three rounds of table football and pool later, we discovered the magical Map Room. The owners have added a special place with a map of the area and all the wonderful things to do around it, recommended by themselves and previous guests. They also send out a link to a digital guide book a week before we arrived. On top of this, each cottage has its own whiteboard where guests can add their itinerary and reviews of their adventures to inspire others. It’s a great addition to the facilities, and made us wish we had longer to stay and explore.
We especially loved the map room, it was really useful to see where other guests had been for inspiration. Make sure you check it out on arrival, so you don’t run out of time to do all the fantastic things previous guests recommend.
Wood Farm Cottages benefits from a great central location for exploring other areas. We decided to go to Great Yarmouth whilst we were there as is it wasn't too far away.
The facilities were great. We especially loved the tractor in the playpark and games room. It was great to have lots of fun rainy day options, including the inside play and games room.
We loved that we arrived to find oven grill already prepared, wrapped in foil and waiting for bacon sandwiches to be made in the morning.
Take a torch as it was quite dark walking down the lane to the pub – especially when your phone battery starts dying!
